On September 9, 2026, WACHA Inc. issued an official press release introducing the artistic journey and Raku tea bowls of Hanasennin, born Nagakazu Kato (1917–1998), as well as WACHA’s efforts to preserve and pass on his body of work.
This marks the first time that Hanasennin’s life and work have been presented widely through an official press release.
The release traces his journey from painter and printmaker to Raku tea bowl artist, describes his distinctive hand-building technique, and introduces the nearly 1,000 Raku tea bowls that remain in the care of his family.
